6th Grade Dance
Dance in 6th grade is a one year class.
Functional fitness is covered the first semester along with Dance curriculum. Functional Fitness exposes students to a variety of health club and
individual fitness activities (basic yoga, Pilates, weight and circuit
training, etc.) that promote health-related fitness for a lifetime.
In Dance students will learn:

Correct
stretching/warm-up technique

Basic muscle
structure, body mechanics, & alignment
o
Choices for a fit
& healthy lifestyle
o
Dance terminology
and history in the areas of dance studied
o
Ballet, Jazz, and Modern dance technique
o
Social and folk
dancing
o
Cultural awareness
of dance
o
Projection and
stage presence
o
Basic choreography
skills
o
How to critique
and polish a dance
Students will have the option to perform in the CSMS Dance Department's annual Spring Show in May.
You will be
required to purchase appropriate dance attire for class. This includes black
stretch pants, black jazz shoes, and a CSMS Dance class t-shirt.
7th
and 8th Grade Dance
Dance in 7th
and 8th grade is a one semester class. You can take Dance in either
the Fall or Spring semester for a PE credit. (If you audition for Cougar Dancers and are
selected to be part of the team, you will be in Dance for BOTH semesters).
In Dance
students will learn the same principals outlined above (for 6th
grade dance) but in more depth and with a focus on intermediate/advanced
techniques.
7th
and 8th grade Dance classes are required to perform in the CSMS Dance Department's annual Winter and Spring shows.
You will be required
to purchase appropriate dance attire for class. This includes black stretch
pants, black jazz shoes, and a CSMS Dance class t-shirt. If you were in dance during the previous
school year you may use the same uniform.
